The Shouty Woman

My 2 Cents

I’ve been trying to avoid commenting on the latest anti-trans bilefest, simply because it made me so angry that I couldn’t produce an articulate response. All I’ll say on the matter is that Little Light is an incredible woman and I bow down in awe before her writing.

One thing I will say, though, is that I find it incredibly disturbing that once again radical feminists are using the same arguments as the religious right to justify their bigotry. How is claiming ‘you cannot be a real woman unless you’ve given/ have the capacity to give birth’ any different to the frothing fundie’s argument that ‘real women’ want to settle down and have children? Why is it oppressive and wrong when men judge women solely in terms of their bodies, but fine when transpeople are on the receiving end of the same judgement?

And that really is all I’ll say. I’m determined to write about something other than these endless convoluted interblog arguments; they do tend to suck you in, though.

  3. Agreed, they do suck you in, like a vaccum in which no brain cells exist or something 😉

  4. I think you have to make a conscious decision to walk away from the fights. Otherwise they consume you and–at the risk of sounding new agey–they just have negativity all over them.

Still you have to support your friends, too. and that’s the fine line, and that’s how you get hoovered into it.

  8. Thank you.

I tried to stay out, too, until my writing got to be the site of another thrash.
    I appreciate your support, anyhow.

  9. I’ve always been disturbed by the readiness with which some radfems use the language of the conservative/religious right – the whole mystical womanhood crap that’s been used to keep women in their place for centuries. When you start to resemble your enemies that should be cause for alarm. Hear sometimes sounds disturbingly like a fundamentalist to me, just with a pretty pro-woman gloss on the top of some very noxious ideas.
I’ve been trying to stay out of the fights and post mostly on my own blog, though. Didn’t stop Ginmar from coming over to my blog and accusing me of calling her out when I hadn’t even read anything she had written about all this yet. Amazing how quick some people are to throw the rest of us under the bus.

  10. Heart -was- a fundamentalist, you know, till not that long ago. quite an active one, in fact, a “rising star in the Christian homeschooling movement.” mentioned by James Dobson and everything. then she got caught having an affair with her most recent (and current?? she still keeps his name, p.s.) later-husband, whilst married to the abusive previous one; she was called out as a scarlet woman, it was all very dramatic…

so yeh, she “converted” again via the nice women who stayed by her side, presumably encountered via the homeschooling thing (the leftier ones who’d read her magazine).

but, yeah. Our Heavenly Father this and that–o yeah, and she was in the “Quiverfull” thing, hence the eleven or so kids.

she just has such a well -dramatic- life, you know. i’ve started imagining her with her own soundtrack, a la Gone With the Wind.
